If you cut open a cocoon during the metamorphosis, you don't see a sort of half-caterpillar-half-butterfly - you see a grey mush. The caterpillar becomes all primordial goo before it rebuilds as a butterfly.
If undergoing a serious metamorphosis, sometimes you have to just Be In The Mush. Its grey and gooey. Its dark and enclosed in the cocoon. You can't rush it. You have to let this natural process happen at its own pace....
But just knowing that you ARE in the mush means that you know that you ARE metamorphosing and that you WILL become a butterfly.
At least you are not still a caterpillar, with all this Mush ahead of you.
